Autumn 2018 series – TRANSFORMED

Sunday 2 September, 11:59am

Over eight weeks (09 September – 28th October 2018) we will look in vivid detail at the seven stories of transformation and explore what transformation means to us as individuals and as a church. How Jesus transforms our lives, how he gives us a new life, how he gives us hope for the future.

LONGING TO BE DIFFERENT

There are many people who long to be different. Some are caught up in circumstances that are beyond their control. Others have had a life of pain and suffering. Some are in relationships that are abusive and provide no security. Others are longing to be free of their present circumstances. Other still, need healing. For many hope of transformation is a distant hope and seems beyond their grasp. the Jesus of the Bible offers transformation to may during his lifetime. He encountered people who needed their lives changes throughout his ministry

HOW DOES TRANSFORMATION HAPPEN?

How are people transformed by Jesus? How does it happen? Where do we find examples of that transformation?

A WEDDING AT CANA IN GALILEE

In John Chapter two Jesus is invited to a wedding at Cana in Galilee, with his mother and the disciples. The story of the wedding at Cana is rich with symbols and the main theme is transformation. The next 10 chapters also are rich with the theme of transformation.

THE EARLY CHAPTERS OF JOHN’S GOSPEL

John 2 and the story of the Wedding at Cana provides for us a framework for understanding the following 10 chapters of John’s Gospel.

From the story in John 2, the water jars represent humanity. The water represents new Life. Wine represent the transformation that takes place. (The wine of The Spirit) The next ten chapters show us six wonderful stories of transformation. Six lives that are transformed by Jesus. John adds a final twist (A seventh Person) Seven is the the number of completeness or the finished work. In the word’s of a contemporary worship song “Of Death Defeated and Life Without End” – Beautiful Saviour (Stuart Townend)
